Falstaff and Me
About That Name
by Roscid Cup
In which Roscid Cup explains the title of his album Dwaledight
Dwaledight isn’t a word. But it seems that any combination of two or three words — even silly portmanteaus like “Synthalicious” — are already taken for album titles and song names. So my silly portmanteau uses archaic words.
If it did exist as a word, it might mean “Clad in deadly night shade” — a phrase like that is rhythmically pleasant, but laughably obvious (like that awkward title to the movie Horrow of Dracula).
Dwale is Middle English for deadly night shade and dight is Early Modern English for “dressed”. This just sounds better if you don’t know what it means (like that joke about “cellar door”).
Had it been a word, then it might have been pronounced DWAHL-uh-deekht. But I’m content to just say DWELL-dite.
